yes she did ma'am. Nao and Tal both got a redesign for the Design Book I'm making in class (as shown above. although in all fairness, Nao's outfits all look alike because of his color scheme)

The backgrounds are painted in photoshop. I used the brushes that come standard in the program, to be more accurate, the wet media brushes and i just use whichever brush i think looks good (usually a round one, but on occasion the more rectangle brushes are nice too.) All it is is simply laying down a "base" color and picking a different color for darks and lights. I also NEVER work at 100% opacity unless I'm doing base colors (as I did for my old style. for this style there are parts in the painting where you can see through it to the background parchment)

The idea with background painting I do is to not think about it realistically and to work more impressionist. AKA, don't stress it and lay down colors in a general flow and form and don't sweat making it look real because the viewer will draw their own conclusions. (much less, my art is too abstract to pull off a realistic background anyways, so its a moot point) The only time you do a detailed background is if you want to draw the viewer to it. because the characters themselves are the focus and I've no intention of having the viewer really look at the background, its a decoration and can be as simple as i want.

the backgrounds chosen are merely to accent the character. For instance, Nao's background makes absolutely no sense to me, but I chose it because the colors of his library just didn't sit well as a background for me. he wound up getting lost in it (the walls and floor are white marble,) just like Kathu is lost in her forest background because she has such an earthy color scheme. Hence, why i desaturated the colors of her background to make her pop more. (For my book her background is more desaturated then this for the pop effect)
